Graduate Engineer

Located in any of our 7 offices, and in any of our sectors:

Primary responsibilities include working as a key project team member on water, municipal, or transportation projects from the planning phase through design and construction. A Graduate Engineer shall be capable of independently and collaboratively contributing to the design and development of project plans, specifications while working with project team members. Graduate Engineers typically report to a Project Manager or Senior Engineer. Additional responsibilities will include taking on the role of resident project representative (RPR) in the field during construction projects in the market area that Apex currently serves from our MN or ND offices.

 Qualification Requirements: 

·  Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering required.

·  Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certified, or ability to obtain certification within one year.

·  Experience in the water, water resources, or transportation fields. Experience with planning, reports, civil design drawings, specifications and cost opinions is a plus.

·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

·  Must be detail oriented, self-motivated with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

·  Flexible working style and willingness to meet project deadlines and/or client needs.

·  Experience using Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

·  Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation/GeoPak, Google-SketchUP Pro or ARCMap GIS or other CADD-based civil design software is a plus.

·  This position will require the initiative to think independently and make rational judgment calls.

·  A valid driver’s license is required or the ability to obtain one.

·  Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.

 Physical Requirements: 

·  Ability to operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.

·  Required to work in an outdoors environment during construction season.

·  May require prolonged periods of standing and walking to perform some of the typical tasks and duties associated with construction observation and surveying.

·  Required to lift objects or containers weighing 50-lbs.

·  Must work scheduled hours in the office or onsite for projects.

Typical Tasks and Duties:

·  Perform assigned tasks as part of project teams on civil engineering projects while learning the project development process including: planning, design, specifications, plans, reports and construction observation.

·  Communicate frequently and effectively with supervisors and project managers on a consistent basis by providing updates and progress during all phases of projects

·  Attend company meetings, project meetings and client meetings on a regular basis.

·  This position will require a limited role initially in preparing proposals and participating in interviews for securing work for the firm. Responsibilities for business development will increase with experience and mentoring by senior staff.

·  Expect to take on and understand the role of the project engineer and the owner’s on-site representative on construction projects.

·  Participate in professional organizations and community leadership programs.

·  Travel and out of town stays will be required periodically. Expect to work overtime, especially during the construction season.

·  Understand and follow company CADD procedures.

·  Understand and follow company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.

·  Perform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal and ethical manner with a strong attention to detail.

·  Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
