Business Development Trainee

IMPORTANT: We are only scheduling interviews with candidates who currently live within 20 miles of New York City. This is a full-time in person role. The second round interview takes place at our Midtown Manhattan office on Madison Avenue.

 

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We recruit for three profiles that consistently rise the highest at PMF.

Athletes and Veterans: the discipline, the daily routine, and the drive to earn your position rather than wait for it are the same traits that build our top performers and our fastest promotions. Twenty of our 26 office managers are former athletes or veterans. Every one of them built their way up from this exact role.

Greek Life and Student Leaders: if you have run a chapter, led a committee, or held a room of competitive personalities accountable, you already have the skill set this floor rewards. Many of our desk managers and team managers came from Greek life and club leadership. They did not wait for a graduate degree to start earning graduate level income.

Previous Sales Experience: you have learned the art of sales but are not being paid what that skill is worth. At PMF every client you fund is yours for the length of your career. No one-time sales. Every client comes back and brings others with them.

 

THE COMPANY

Premium Merchant Funding is the largest brokerage platform in the alternative lending industry, headquartered on Wall Street. In the last 12 years we have grown from a single office to an organization of 26 offices across 4 countries with partnerships across hundreds of lenders, allowing us to offer over 30 different products and solutions to American business owners.

This year PMF is pushing to hit 7 billion in funded deals, making this a career defining opportunity for a 2026 graduate with the drive to build something real.

 

THE ROLE

This is not a customer service role. This is a Wall Street sales and consulting role. You will build relationships with business owners and gather four key pieces of information: how long they have been in business, what they need the capital for, how much revenue they are generating, and whether they have any existing debt positions.

That information becomes a funding application submitted to the closing team. Right now closers are funding 20 out of every 50 applications submitted. Any representative submitting two applications a day is on pace to earn $120,000 or more in annual commissions.

Every client you fund becomes a page in your own book of business, either as a repeat customer or a referral source. 

The ability to genuinely connect with people is a superpower in this business. 

 

TRAINING AND MENTORSHIP

You will start with an intensive two week training program that helps new representatives learn how to generate their first few applications. Once training is completed you will move into our three to six month mentorship program that covers the long term skills needed to grow and maintain a book of business. The mentorship is designed to run until referrals and return customers begin coming in on their own.

 

 

COMMISSION STRUCTURE

This is a 1099 commission-based opportunity. Your earnings are a direct reflection of your activity and nothing else. There is no base salary and no ceiling. Representatives earn between 20 and 40 percent on every deal that funds, with commission tiers that increase as production grows. There is a 30 day hold period before commissions are paid out to protect you from clawbacks. 80 percent of active Midtown representatives are funding their 1st deal within 35 days on the desk.

 

Year 1 OTE : $80,000 to $120,000 in commissions.  Year 2 OTE: with a mature book of business is $250,000 and above 

Any representative submitting two applications daily is on pace for $120,000 or more in annual commissions

Individual results vary and are entirely dependent on activity level and effort.
