POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous coaching experience
- Valid Driver License
- AHSAA Coaches Education Program certification or obtain certification before any practice attended
- Valid CPR certification
- A sign language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system
- Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment
PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate
- Head Coaching experience
- CDL with Alabama School Bus endorsement
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Leadership & Player Development
- Skill Instruction: Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of volleyball fundamentals and rules; effectively teach and develop players in all aspects of the game.
- Player Progression: Focus on individual player growth and skill advancement to prepare student-athletes for junior varsity and varsity levels.
- Practice Planning: Design and implement age-appropriate practice sessions emphasizing technique, game strategy, and long-term athletic development.
- Program Alignment: Coordinate the Junior High and Youth Volleyball Programs, ensuring consistency with the Head Coach’s systems, philosophy, and goals.
- Team Culture: Promote a positive environment centered on sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and maximum effort.
- Off-Season Engagement: Organize and supervise spring/summer practices, skill development sessions, and specialized camps. Attend coaching clinics as determined by the athletic director.
Communication & Professionalism
- Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain rapport with students, parents, alumni, public school personnel, and the broader community.
- Communication Proficiency: Communicate effectively with both Deaf and hearing individuals; maintain a steadfast commitment to the AIDB Communication Policy in theory and practice.
- Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model, representing the school and the athletic program with high integrity and professionalism.
- Collaboration: Work cooperatively as a team member to support all athletic programs and school-wide extracurricular activities.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Student Welfare: Ensure the safety of student-athletes through proper training techniques, safety protocols, and diligent supervision.
- Injury Management: Maintain basic First Aid knowledge; evaluate minor injuries and refer serious medical concerns to the Athletic Trainer or school infirmary.
- Required Certifications: Complete and maintain all mandatory training, including Concussion, Heat Acclimatization, STAR Sportsmanship, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest courses. Obtain and maintain AHSAA Coaches Education Program certification.
- Professional Growth: Attend coaching clinics, organizational meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Operations & Administration
- Logistics & Equipment: Manage the inventory, storage, and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
- Facilities: Ensure athletic facilities are organized and well-maintained.
- Game-Day Support: Assist with game-day operations, including setup, post-game responsibilities, and recording/organizing game film for instructional use.
- Athletic Support: Participate in off-season duties such as concessions, ticket sales, and special events.
- Transportation Compliance: Maintain a valid Alabama School Bus Driver’s License (including required physicals) or obtain a CDL with School Bus endorsement within 12 months of hire.
