Web Development Intern
Job Description
Kira is a vertically integrated lab-grown diamond manufacturer and jewelry company headquartered in Midtown Manhattan. We supply more than 2,500 independent retail jewelers across the United States with finished jewelry, loose diamonds, and custom design services. From growing rough diamonds to CAD design, casting, and final fulfillment, we control the entire production pipeline - and we're now investing heavily in the digital infrastructure that supports it.
We're hiring a Web Development Intern to help us design and build our next-generation B2B wholesale e-commerce platform from scratch. This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership. You will not be tweaking a template or fixing small bugs on an existing site. You will be architecting, building, and shipping a production website that our retail jeweler accounts use every day to browse inventory, place memo/invoice/consignment orders, and manage custom design projects. You'll report directly to the Head Developer and work alongside our operations and design teams in New York and India.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for building the front-end and helping architect the back-end of our new B2B platform. Day-to-day, you'll translate wireframes and product requirements into clean, performant React components; build out retailer account flows including login, tokenized catalog sharing, and white-label preview modes; implement order workflows for memo, invoice, and consignment order types with draft order mechanics; integrate the site with our existing inventory pipelines (FTP feeds, GitHub Actions automation, WooCommerce); connect the platform to our internal Smartsheet-based custom order system via API; optimize site performance, SEO, and mobile responsiveness; deploy and maintain staging and production environments; and document your code so the next person on the project can pick it up cleanly. You'll also participate in weekly product reviews and contribute ideas on scope, prioritization, and technical direction.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related field, or be a self-taught developer with a strong public portfolio. You must have shipped at least one real web project end-to-end (school capstone, side project, hackathon, or freelance work - GitHub or a live URL required). Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Git is required. You must be able to commit a minimum of [15–20 hours per week] over the course of the internship, communicate clearly in writing, and manage your own time with limited supervision.
Skills We're Looking For
The strongest candidates will bring solid experience with React and Next.js, comfort with modern JavaScript or TypeScript, and a working understanding of REST and/or GraphQL APIs. Familiarity with headless commerce platforms (Medusa 2.0, Shopify Hydrogen, Commerce.js) or traditional e-commerce stacks (WooCommerce, Shopify) is a significant plus. Experience with Postgres or Supabase, deployment platforms like Vercel, CDN configuration (bunny.net or Cloudflare), and authentication flows (OAuth, JWT, session management) will move you to the top of the pile. Bonus points for any exposure to the jewelry, luxury, or fashion industry, or for prior B2B e-commerce work. Above all, we're looking for someone who is curious, asks good questions, and takes pride in shipping clean, working code.
