Legal Assistant

Are you an outgoing, reliable individual who loves connecting with people? Are you looking to transition out of retail or food service and build a real career in the legal and business world?

A Queens based personal injury law firm is looking for a highly motivated, entry-level professional to represent the firm in the community and be part of the legal support team. In this unique hybrid role, the right candidate will spend part of their time representing the firm at local events, and the rest of their time working directly with the managing attorney to learn the ins and outs of personal injury law.

This position starts at 20 to 30 hours per week, making it ideal for someone wrapping up school or looking for flexibility. For the right candidate who proves their reliability and eagerness to learn, there is a clear opportunity to transition into a full-time career with the firm after 6 months.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represent the firm at local events, community centers, and promotional pop-ups.
  • Confidently approach new people, build rapport, and share information about how the firm’s legal team helps the community.
  • Help potential clients connect with the firm’s intake team to set up free legal consultations.
  • Help the legal staff keep case files organized, request medical records, and put together document binders for trials and hearings.
  • Edit firm templates to help draft basic legal letters, memos, and court documents.
  • Communicate with clients to provide basic updates on their case and request missing documents.
  • Collect medical records, track important court deadlines, and understand the basics of medical insurance claims.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • You are comfortable talking to strangers, have a positive attitude, and show up on time.
  • You have a genuine interest in gaining hands-on experience in business, marketing and the legal field.
  • You are comfortable standing for extended periods during community events and can lift up to 50 lbs (for event tents and table setups).
  • You have a valid driver’s license and/or access to public transportation to get to local events.
