The Converse EDGE Internship Program provides students with meaningful, career-connected experiences that integrate professional skill development with hands-on workplace learning. Through mentorship, reflection, assessment, and practical application, EDGE Interns develop the career readiness competencies employers seek while making valuable contributions to campus departments and programs.

Position Description

The Interior Design EDGE Intern supports the Interior Design program through design resource management, accreditation support, classroom preparation, and student-focused program initiatives. Working closely with faculty and students, the intern contributes to the organization, accessibility, and continuous improvement of design materials and program resources while gaining hands-on experience with the operational and administrative functions of an accredited Interior Design program.

This position provides exposure to professional design resources, accreditation processes, studio operations, project organization, and collaborative problem-solving while helping students develop skills relevant to careers in interior design and related creative industries.

Key Responsibilities

Design Resource Management & Studio Operations

  • Manage the Interior Design materials library, sample collections, and departmental resources to ensure materials remain organized, accessible, and useful for student and faculty projects.
  • Coordinate preparation of presentation materials, project displays, and studio resources that support classroom instruction and student success.
  • Serve as a resource for students by helping facilitate access to design materials, software resources, and program information.

Program Operations & Accreditation Support

  • Support CIDA accreditation efforts through management of documentation, records, and program resources used for assessment and reporting.
  • Organize and maintain program assessment materials, files, and resources that support departmental planning and accreditation activities.
  • Lead or contribute to special projects that improve resource accessibility, program operations, student learning experiences, or accreditation readiness.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

The Interior Design Materials Library Enhancement Project provides an opportunity to evaluate, organize, and improve the department's professional materials library. The intern will contribute to decisions regarding categorization, accessibility, storage, and presentation of design resources used by students and faculty.

Additional opportunities may include supporting accreditation activities, assisting with student presentations and displays, and providing peer support related to design resources and software tools.

Qualifications

  • BFA Interior Design major preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional attitude and commitment to meeting University service expectations.
  • Willingness and desire to work collaboratively with faculty and fellow students.
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, or SketchUp is beneficial but not required.

Preferred Class Year

  • Junior or Senior

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Lifting and carrying materials.
  • Participation in project setup, display installation, and departmental activities.

Supervision, Mentorship & Evaluation

EDGE Interns receive ongoing coaching, mentorship, and project-based feedback from Interior Design faculty throughout the academic year. Students receive guidance on professional expectations, design resource management, accreditation processes, and career readiness skill development.

As part of the Converse EDGE Internship Program, interns participate in a structured assessment process designed to measure growth in career readiness competencies and professional development.

  • Pay Rate: $12.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Determined in coordination with the supervisor
  • Positions will remain open until filled. Hiring timelines vary by department, and some supervisors may move more quickly through the interview and selection process than others. Early application is encouraged.
