About the Converse EDGE Internship Program

The Converse EDGE Internship Program provides students with meaningful, career-connected experiences that integrate professional skill development with hands-on workplace learning. 

Through mentorship, reflection, assessment, and practical application, EDGE Interns develop the career readiness competencies employers seek while making valuable contributions to campus departments and programs.

Position Description

The Student Development & Success EDGE Intern supports the daily operations, communication efforts, and student engagement initiatives of the Student Development & Success office. Through administrative support, event promotion, and student-facing office responsibilities, interns contribute to the visibility and effectiveness of programs, services, and events that support the student experience at Converse.

This position provides hands-on experience in office operations, professional communication, event support, customer service, and workplace technology while helping students develop transferable skills applicable to a wide range of career fields.

Professional Development Outcomes (What You Will Gain)

By participating in this internship, students will:

  • Develop professional communication skills through interactions with students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
  • Gain experience in office operations, administrative support, and workplace organization.
  • Build familiarity with office technology and equipment, including printers, laminators, and document production tools.
  • Strengthen professionalism, adaptability, and workplace readiness through day-to-day office responsibilities.
  • Develop an understanding of how student-facing offices support campus engagement, programs, and services.

Key Responsibilities

Office Operations & Customer Service

  • Serve as a professional first point of contact by answering phones, directing calls, and assisting visitors with questions and resource referrals.
  • Support daily office operations through clerical and administrative responsibilities.
  • Maintain organized materials, supplies, and resources used by the department.

Communications & Event Promotion

  • Create banners and promotional materials that increase awareness of campus programs, services, and events.
  • Print, laminate, organize, and distribute flyers and other communication materials across campus.
  • Support departmental communication efforts that promote student engagement and participation.

Event Support

  • Contribute to the successful execution of departmental events occurring during scheduled work hours.
  • Assist with event preparation, setup, logistics, and related operational needs.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

In addition to daily responsibilities, interns may participate in projects that support student engagement, communication, and office effectiveness. Opportunities may include evaluating promotional efforts, developing student resource materials, assisting with communication initiatives, or contributing ideas that enhance awareness of programs and services offered through Student Development & Success.

Communication

  • Develop professional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills through daily office interactions and promotional activities.

  • Demonstrate reliability, accountability, workplace etiquette, and professional conduct in a student-facing office environment.

Technology

  • Utilize office equipment and technology tools to support communication, event promotion, and departmental operations.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled Converse University student in good academic standing.
  • Good attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assigned responsibilities.
  • Dependable and professional in a student-facing environment.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Standing for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting and carrying materials.
  • Participation in event setup and breakdown activities.
     

Supervision, Mentorship & Evaluation

EDGE Interns receive ongoing coaching, mentorship, and feedback throughout the academic year. Supervisors provide guidance on workplace expectations, professional development, and operational responsibilities.

As part of the Converse EDGE Internship Program, interns participate in a structured assessment process designed to measure growth in career readiness competencies and professional development.

  • Schedule: Determined in coordination with the supervisor
  • Positions will remain open until filled. Hiring timelines vary by department, and some supervisors may move more quickly through the interview and selection process than others. Early application is encouraged.
