Overview

Registered Nurses on the Acute Care (Med/Surg) Unit at Bronson LakeView Hospital provide high‑quality, patient‑centered care in alignment with organizational policies, unit standards, and the Michigan Public Health Code. RNs use the full nursing process — assessment, planning, diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation — to support safe, effective care throughout each patient’s stay.

The role includes coordinating care with interdisciplinary teams, delegating tasks within scope, documenting patient responses, and ensuring timely, safe discharge planning. Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Assessment & Care Delivery
• Collect and analyze comprehensive patient data to identify needs and appropriate interventions.
• Develop individualized plans of care, incorporating patient/family input and clinical pathways when appropriate.
• Administer medications and treatments according to approved nursing techniques and policies.
• Provide patient education and ensure comfort and safety throughout care delivery.
• Evaluate patient responses to interventions and adjust plans as needed.

Care Coordination & Collaboration

• Coordinate care with physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff.
• Delegate tasks based on patient needs, staff competencies, and scope of practice.
• Participate in discharge planning and ensure continuity of care across the healthcare continuum.

Documentation & Communication

• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and promptly.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team in verbal, written, and electronic formats.

Professional Practice & Development

• Participate in quality improvement activities and use findings to enhance practice.
• Maintain required competencies and engage in ongoing education.
• Contribute to a supportive, collaborative, and professional work environment.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred; must obtain within 8 years of hire.
• Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing in the State of Michigan.
• BLS certification required by completion of core orientation.
• Additional certifications may be required based on unit needs (e.g., ACLS, PALS).
• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze clinical data and operate computer systems.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with patient handling as needed.

Work Environment
