Software Engineering Intern
About us
Luma Health, rebranding to Afterward, is a telehealth platform delivering longevity, hormone optimization, and metabolic health programs to members across 40+ states. Our main core is peptides. We're small, fast, and building the technology behind a membership-based, async-first care model. You'd be joining early enough to shape the product and the stack — and if it's a fit on both sides, to grow into the technical leadership of the company.
The role
This is a flex builder role for someone who wants range, not a narrow ticket queue. Over the summer you'll own real product surfaces and get exposure to the harder, more interesting problems we're working on:
- Patient portal — the member-facing app for protocols, labs, visit history, messaging, and billing
- Patient automations — workflows that handle intake, follow-ups, reminders, and routine clinical ops so the team can scale
- AI / "digital twin" buildout — early exploration of patient digital-twin modeling and AI-assisted clinical and operational tooling
You'll work directly with the founder, ship things members and staff actually use, and have a genuine say in architecture decisions.
What we're looking for
- Currently pursuing a CS / software engineering degree (or equivalent skill)
- Has actually shipped and deployed something with real users. A side project, hackathon build, or prior internship. We care about this far more than your GPA.
- Comfortable with a modern web stack (React/TypeScript or similar) and able to move across the stack
- Curious about applied AI — LLMs, automations, agentic workflows — and able to tell the difference between a demo and something production-worthy
- Careful around sensitive data; you'll be trained on handling protected health information correctly
Nice to have
- Exposure to healthcare, HIPAA, or regulated/privacy-sensitive data
- Experience with automation tooling, workflow orchestration, or LLM APIs
- Familiarity with Stripe or similar payment infrastructure
How we work
The data architecture and security guardrails are set by leadership — your job is to build great things within those rails, and we'll teach you why they exist. You get real ownership, direct access to the founder, and a front-row seat to how an early-stage healthcare company runs. For the right person, this summer is the audition for a much bigger role.
$2k a month stipend to vet- but really looking to bring on equity CTO.
