Gear Garage Technician (Bike Mechanic)

UW Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Life. We provide safe, accessible, and dynamic recreation experiences to engage students in growth and wellbeing. UW Recreation serves over one million students, faculty, and staff each academic year through informal and formal recreation, including fitness and sports classes, intramural and club sports, outdoor education, mindfulness programs, and more.

Job Description  
Under the supervision of the UWild Boating and Rentals Manager, the Gear Garage Technician (Bike Mechanic) is responsible for overseeing the technical maintenance of equipment at the Gear Garage. Examples of duties include: leading preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance of skis and bikes, and maintaining and visually inspecting all other Gear Garage equipment.

Minimum Qualifications 

University of Washington matriculated student 

Ability to work this summer and future summers

Must be eligible and willing to work as a UW Student Employee through September 2026 

Knowledge of bicycle and ski equipment and its use 

Ability to operate tools and other equipment unsupervised 

Demonstrated proficiency as a bicycle repair technician 

Physical ability to bend, stoop, lift and/or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

UW Graduation Date of June 2028 or later 

Demonstrated proficiency with ski waxing, edge tuning, and base repair
