Position Description

The Residence Life Marketing & Communications Desk Assistant EDGE Intern supports communication, marketing, and engagement initiatives within the Office of Residence Life while also assisting with front desk operations and administrative support in designated residence halls. This position helps promote Residence Life programs, resources, and services through strategic communications and student-focused outreach efforts.

The role provides hands-on experience in social media management, content creation, marketing, communications, event promotion, and student engagement while developing transferable skills applicable to careers in communications, marketing, public relations, higher education, and student affairs.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications

  • Create and manage social media content that promotes Residence Life programs, services, and student engagement initiatives.
  • Design newsletters, flyers, digital signage, and other communication materials that support departmental goals.
  • Capture photos and videos at Residence Life events and use content to support marketing and outreach efforts.

Student Engagement & Outreach

  • Develop communication campaigns that increase awareness of campus resources, residential programs, and student opportunities.
  • Analyze communication engagement and recommend improvements to outreach strategies and content planning.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Provide front desk coverage and administrative support within assigned residence halls.
  • Assist with departmental projects, events, and communication initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality while serving students in a residential environment.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

EDGE Interns gain hands-on experience in marketing, communications, content creation, social media management, branding, and student engagement.

Project opportunities may include developing semester-long social media content calendars, creating Residence Life newsletters, designing resident resource awareness campaigns, and contributing to communication initiatives that support student success and community engagement.

  • Enrolled Converse University student in good academic standing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers and professional staff.
  • Interest in marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design, social media, student engagement, or student affairs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a residential setting.
  • Availability to assist with occasional evening or weekend events.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Participation in event setup and breakdown activities.

Supervision, Mentorship & Evaluation

EDGE Interns receive ongoing coaching, mentorship, and feedback throughout the academic year. Supervisors provide guidance on communications planning, marketing strategies, project development, and professional growth while supporting the intern's development of career readiness competencies.

As part of the Converse EDGE Internship Program, interns participate in a structured assessment process designed to measure growth in career readiness competencies and professional development.

Position Details

  • Position Type: EDGE Intern
  • Department: Residence Life
  • Duration: Fall 2026 and Spring 2027
  • Pay Rate: $12.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Two evening shifts per week between Sunday and Wednesday, typically from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m 
  • Positions will remain open until filled. Hiring timelines vary by department, and some supervisors may move more quickly through the interview and selection process than others. Early application is encouraged.
