Position Description

The Athletics Game Day Operations EDGE Intern supports the successful execution of NCAA Division II athletic events by contributing to event production, game management, and technology operations. Interns play an important role in creating a positive experience for student-athletes, coaches, spectators, and online viewers while helping ensure events operate smoothly and meet Conference Carolinas and NCAA expectations.

Through participation in live athletic events, interns gain practical experience with event operations, broadcast technology, game management systems, teamwork, communication, adaptability, and problem-solving. Interns are cross-trained across multiple game-day functions and develop an understanding of how various operational roles work together to support successful collegiate athletic events.

Key Responsibilities

Game Day Operations

  • Contribute to the successful execution of home athletic events through a variety of operational and technology-based roles.
  • Prepare event spaces, equipment, and operational resources before competitions.
  • Support event breakdown, equipment storage, and post-event operational activities.
  • Help create a positive game-day experience for student-athletes, spectators, visiting teams, and online audiences.

Technology & Event Production

Interns are cross-trained and may rotate among multiple responsibilities throughout the academic year, including:

  • Operate scoreboard systems that support game management, scoring accuracy, and the spectator experience.
  • Operate shot clock systems during designated athletic competitions.
  • Perform live scoring and statistical tracking to support athletic event administration and reporting.
  • Operate music and sound systems that contribute to event atmosphere and game presentation.
  • Support athletic broadcasts and livestreams through camera operation and event coverage activities.
  • Contribute to video board production and game presentation functions.
  • Support online event coverage through livestream production activities.
  • Perform additional game-day operations responsibilities as assigned.

Assignments vary by sport and event, providing exposure to multiple aspects of collegiate athletics operations and event production.

  • Enrolled Converse University student in good academic standing.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and operational procedures.

  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependable, punctual, and willing to learn multiple game-day functions.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Standing for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting and carrying materials and equipment.
  • Assisting with event setup, breakdown, and equipment storage.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by athletic event schedules.

Supervision, Mentorship & Evaluation

EDGE Interns receive ongoing coaching, mentorship, and feedback throughout the academic year. Supervisors provide guidance on workplace expectations, professional development, and operational responsibilities.

As part of the Converse EDGE Internship Program, interns participate in a structured assessment process designed to measure growth in career readiness competencies and professional development.

  • Schedule: Primarily evenings and weekends based on athletic event schedules
