Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 assignments:  

  • Provide mentorship and support to a caseload of peers on academic probation and/or first-year students enrolled in POET 101 in both the Fall and Spring semester
  • Develop, promote, and facilitate one uniquely themed Academic Support Workshop each semester
    • Workshop themes may include but are not limited to: Time management, learning styles, study skills, finals prep, etc.
  • Serve as a Tutor, Academic Coach, Student-Athlete Peer Mentor, and/or First-Year Programs Peer Mentor in CAAS
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of the annual Exploring Majors and Declare Your Major Day events.
  • Advocate for and share CAAS services with the campus community in order for students to make meaningful educational progress throughout their entire college career.
  • Exhibit professionalism and excellent customer service through respectful and hospitable conduct in all communications (in-person, via telephone and written communication) with students, parents, and staff to establish a positive climate for learning.
  • Assist the professional staff in creating content for and managing the CAAS Instagram account
  • Assist in scheduling CAAS staff for training and maintain open communication with CAAS student staff regarding issues that may arise such as attendance and punctuality.
  • Participate and help facilitate CAAS staff training with the supervision of the professional staff to promote departmental priorities and professional expectations.

Summer 2026 Responsibilities (optional):

  • Assist the CAAS staff in fielding questions from new students regarding registration and CAAS services via email and phone calls
  • Conduct outreach via phone to all incoming students to remind them about what tasks they need to complete prior to registering for their classes (leaving voicemails when necessary).
  • Serve as a resource during summer registration events for incoming first-year and transfer students
  • Design marketing materials for events for the start of the academic year

Desired and/or Required qualifications for the position: 

  • Strong desire to assist peers in learning about Academic Services in CAAS and to empower students to utilize academic support services
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact positively with students, professional staff and faculty.
  • Demonstrates initiative in helping incoming students become familiarized with the center and learn more about our resources.
  • Outstanding communication skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening skills)
  • Professional attitude and demeanor (follow policies and demonstrates initiative)
  • Eager to unite the Whittier College community by planning and attending Community Building functions
  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing at position start
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Preferred but not required: Enroll in INTD 299 for 1-3 units
