Position: Student Assistant – Administrative and Logistics Support

Hours:
10–20 hours per week (flexible around class schedule), with the potential for additional hours during summer and academic breaks.

 

Preferred Fields of Study:
Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Public Administration, Operations Management, or related disciplines.

 

Overview:

The Pacific Islands Water Science Center (PIWSC) is seeking a motivated and dependable student currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary educational institution on Oʻahu to provide on-site administrative, logistical, facilities, and operational support. 

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative and Office Support

  • Receive, distribute, and track incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
  • Coordinate conference room scheduling and meeting logistics.
  • Provide customer service and support to employees, visitors, and vendors and escorts visitors, contractors, and vendors within secured facilities.
  • Assist with excess property processing and disposal activities.
  • Serve as a liaison between Center staff and administrative support functions, including facilities, property, fleet, shipping, records management, and information technology services.

Facilities and Logistics Support

  • Assist with organizing offices, storage areas, laboratories, and warehouse spaces.
  • Rearrange office furniture and equipment as needed.

Fleet Support

  • Schedule and track routine vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Operate government vehicles, including larger trucks and utility vehicles, as required.

 

Additional Duties:

  • Duties may expand based on organizational needs and the student's interests and experience and may include assisting with timekeeping, charge card reconciliations, travel support, and other administrative functions.

 

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary educational institution located on Oʻahu and remain enrolled for the duration of the appointment.

  • Must possess a valid Hawaiʻi driver's license and be capable of safely operating Government-owned passenger vehicles, such as sport utility vehicles (SUVs), cargo vans and light-duty pickup. 
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
