Broward Sheriff's Office Collegiate Athlete Internship
The Collegiate Athlete Recruitment Program (C.A.R.P.) is a specialized internship opportunity designed for collegiate student-athletes interested in exploring careers in public safety. Through a combination of virtual learning, mentorship and hands-on experiences, participants gain behind-the-scenes exposure to one of the nation’s largest full-service public safety organizations while developing professional skills rooted in teamwork, discipline, leadership and service.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore a variety of career pathways within public safety, including law enforcement, fire rescue, detention, communications and civilian professional services.
Position Duties/Responsibilities
Responsibilities may vary based on the selected internship track but may include:
- Participate in virtual and in-person learning experiences
- Attend tours, presentations and hands-on demonstrations throughout BSO facilities
- Observe daily operations within assigned divisions, units or specialty areas
- Engage with mentors and public safety professionals
- Complete assigned modules, projects or reflection activities
- Develop professional communication, leadership and teamwork skills
- Participate in career exploration and networking opportunities
- Maintain professionalism, punctuality and confidentiality throughout the program
Position Requirements
- Flexible start and end dates based on academic and athletic schedules
- Internship tracks average approximately 120–150 total hours
- Participants typically complete approximately 8–15 hours per week depending on availability and selected track
- Some activities may occur during standard business hours and will be scheduled in advance
- Participants may be required to travel to various BSO facilities throughout Broward County
- Professional attire may be required for certain events, tours or presentations
- Completion of the online application and required program agreements is mandatory prior to participation
Position Qualifications
Preferred candidates include collegiate student-athletes who demonstrate:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Leadership, teamwork and time management abilities
- Interest in public safety, criminal justice, public administration, communications, health sciences or related fields
- Ability to maintain professionalism in a structured environment
- Self-motivation and willingness to learn
- Current enrollment at an accredited college or university

This is an unpaid internship opportunity designed to provide professional development, mentorship, networking and career exploration experiences within public safety. Participants will gain valuable hands-on exposure and insight into career opportunities throughout the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
