SolidWorks Designer
ENTRY LEVEL POSITION
Rack Processing Company is where engineering meets real-world manufacturing.
Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, we specialize in custom metal fabrication and plating rack design for industries including automotive, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing.
What sets us apart is our ability to take a concept and move it rapidly through design, prototyping, and full-scale production — all under one roof. Our team works with advanced tools like SolidWorks, CNC forming, and laser cutting systems to create solutions that directly impact manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
We’re especially known for our expertise in plating-on-plastics (POP) rack design, a critical but often overlooked component in modern manufacturing.
For SolidWorks Designers Who Want More Than Just CAD
If you’re tired of designing parts that never leave your screen, keep reading. Step up from classroom training to in-house opportunities.
At Rack Processing Company, your work doesn’t stop at a drawing, you’ll be part of the full design-to-production cycle, creating real products used in manufacturing environments around the world.
What We’re Looking For
- SolidWorks experience required (sheet metal preferred)
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, CAD, or related field — or equivalent hands-on experience
- Entry-level experience in engineering, design, or manufacturing (internships or project work count) – Automotive even better!
- Interest in how things are actually made — not just designed
- Familiarity with fast-paced, production-driven environments
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and accountable
What You’ll Do
- Design and develop custom products using SolidWorks, with a focus on sheet metal components
- Create detailed drawings and production-ready print packages
- Build and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) and work orders
- Support prototyping and design adjustments based on manufacturing feedback
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and sales on concepts, quoting, and technical solutions
- Provide accurate updates on order status and product details
What Makes This Role Different
- Work directly with the shop floor — not in a silo
- See your designs move from concept → prototype → production
- Design for real-world constraints: materials, welding, fabrication, and efficiency
- Gain exposure to ERP systems like Global Shop and real production workflows
- Play a direct role in continuous improvement across design and manufacturing
