Video Production Intern

Stories move people. Great video production moves markets. 

Katalyst Culture Creative is seeking a Video Production Intern who understands that compelling visual storytelling isn't just about technical excellence, it's about capturing authentic narratives that resonate with diverse audiences. Working alongside our creative team, you'll create video content for businesses, organizations, and leaders that are transforming their communities. 

This isn't about standing in the corner holding a light stand, you'll be involved in the complete production process from pre-production planning through final delivery, learning how strategy, creativity, and technical execution come together to create content that drives real business results.

Learning Opportunities

Through this internship, you will develop professional skills and industry knowledge including:

  • Complete Production Workflow – Experience the full video production lifecycle from concept development and pre-production planning through shooting, editing, and final delivery
  • Professional Video Production Techniques – Master camera operation, lighting setups, audio recording, and on-set protocols for various production environments
  • Advanced Editing & Post-Production – Develop proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, color grading, sound design, and motion graphics
  • Visual Storytelling for Business – Learn how to translate brand strategy and marketing objectives into compelling video narratives that drive engagement and conversion
  • Client Collaboration & Communication – Shadow client meetings, participate in creative briefings, and understand how to manage client expectations throughout production
  • Cultural Storytelling Competency – Gain experience creating authentic, culturally relevant content for diverse audiences and communities
  • Multi-Platform Content Strategy – Understand how to optimize video content for different platforms (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, broadcast) and audience behaviors
  • Production Management – Learn equipment management, asset organization, project file workflows, and delivery specifications for professional standards
  • Professional Mentorship – Receive regular feedback, portfolio reviews, and career guidance from experienced video professionals with broadcast and commercial experience

 

Responsibilities

As a valued member of our video production team, you will:

  • Assist with video shoots as production assistant, including equipment setup, lighting, audio, and on-set support
  • Support the editing process for client videos under supervision of senior editors
  • Help with equipment management, maintenance, and inventory tracking
  • Assist with basic motion graphics, lower thirds, titles, and video effects in After Effects
  • Participate in pre-production planning including storyboarding, shot lists, and location scouting
  • Organize and manage video assets, project files, and footage libraries using professional naming conventions
  • Research visual references, competitive content, and platform best practices to inform creative decisions
  • Contribute to internal video projects for Katalyst Culture Creative and The Katalyst Collective
  • Assist with color correction, sound mixing, and final export specifications
  • Collaborate with Graphic Design and Digital Media team members on integrated multimedia projects
  • This role reports to the Digital Media Production Specialist

 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Film Production, Digital Media, Video Production, Communications, or related field
  • Completed at least 2 years of undergraduate coursework
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of video production equipment (cameras, lighting, audio) and shooting techniques
  • Developing proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects (or willingness to learn quickly)
  • Understanding of basic storytelling principles, shot composition, and visual narrative structure
  • Familiarity with different camera formats, frame rates, and video codecs
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under deadline pressure
  • Physical ability to lift and transport production equipment (up to 30-40 lbs)
  • Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback with a growth mindset
  • Genuine interest in supporting underrepresented businesses and diverse communities through visual storytelling
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in fast-paced production environments

 

Academic Requirements

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Relevant coursework in video production, editing, cinematography, or digital storytelling
  • Ability to receive academic credit for the internship (preferred but not required)
  • Letter of recommendation from a faculty member (preferred)

 

Portfolio Requirements

  • A developing portfolio/reel showcasing 3-5 video projects that demonstrate your skills and creative vision:
  • Examples that show your editing abilities, pacing, and storytelling approach
  • Projects demonstrating camera work, lighting, or cinematography skills (if applicable)
  • Any motion graphics, title sequences, or visual effects work
  • Class projects, personal work, or collaborative productions that show your creative process
  • Work that demonstrates cultural awareness or community storytelling (preferred)
  • Links to online portfolio/reel (Vimeo, YouTube, personal website) must be included with application
