Position Overview

Mystic Valley Regional Charter School seeks a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Physics Teacher to join our high school faculty. The successful candidate will teach Physics to juniors and seniors in college-preparatory, Honors, and/or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.

This lecture and laboratory-based course incorporates class discussions, demonstrations, hands-on laboratory investigations, and instructor-guided activities designed to foster scientific inquiry and critical thinking. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in physics, a passion for teaching, and the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts in a clear, engaging, and accessible manner.

Responsibilities

Deliver rigorous instruction in Physics aligned with course objectives and school expectations.

Develop and implement lesson plans, laboratory experiences, demonstrations, and assessments that support student achievement.

Monitor and analyze student performance and use data to inform instructional decisions.

Create a positive, structured learning environment that supports students' academic, social, and intellectual development.

Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.

Assess and evaluate student work, including laboratory reports, assignments, projects, examinations, and other assessments.

Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.

Supervise students during laboratory activities and ensure adherence to all safety procedures.

Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and school committees as assigned.

Provide extra academic support to students as needed.

Assist with school-wide responsibilities, which may include study hall supervision, lunch duty, class coverage, MCAS preparation classes, and examination proctoring.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Physics, Physical Science, Engineering, or a related field required.

Massachusetts Physics (8–12) licensure preferred.

Physics MTEL required or ability to obtain licensure within one year of employment.

Strong content knowledge in classical and modern physics.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to engage students through clear instruction, demonstrations, and laboratory experiences.

Commitment to maintaining high academic standards and fostering student success.

Experience teaching high school Physics and/or International Baccalaureate (IB) coursework preferred.
