School Social Worker
Requirements:
- Education:
- Master of Social Work degree from an MDE- approved graduate school
- Completion of an approved school social worker program from a graduate school of social work
- Minimum of 500 clock hours of supervised social work practicum experiences
- Certificates/ Licenses:
- Recommendation for Temporary Approval for School Social Worker from a Michigan school of social work training program (Or)
- MDE Temporary Approval for School Social Worker (Or)
- MDE Continuing Temporary Approval for School Social Worker (Or)
- MDE Full Approval for School Social Worker
Duties:
- School-Based Systems Support
- Identify and coordinate accommodations and environmental modifications to support student access to the general education curriculum.
- Support successful student transitions that impact learning opportunities.
- Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs); support school-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
- Provide instruction, modeling, and consultation to students, families, and staff on effective behavior intervention strategies.
- Participate in pre-referral/building-level problem-solving teams and serve on Multidisciplinary Evaluation Teams (MET).
- Serve as a liaison between BISD and community agencies and resources.
- Special Education Evaluation
- Collaborate with parents, administrators, multidisciplinary team members, and community agencies to evaluate students and determine the educational impact of disabilities.
- Administer, interpret, and report assessments for special education eligibility and service planning.
- Conduct systematic student observations and assist with implementation of IEPT recommendations, particularly those involving family and community collaboration.
- Direct Services
- Provide direct services to students with disabilities in accordance with IEPs, including progress monitoring and required documentation.
- Support district behavior programs and social-emotional learning initiatives.
- Assist with implementation of the Peer-to-Peer LINKS program at assigned buildings.
- Maintain required student attendance and Medicaid documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including working additional or supplemental days as required to ensure continuity of services.
