OSP Field Engineer
Location: Columbus, OH (Onsite)
Employment Type: 1099 Contract – Long-Term
Position Summary
We are seeking an OSP Field Engineer to support fiber network deployment and telecommunications infrastructure projects. The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting field investigations, gathering route and utility data, documenting existing conditions, and providing accurate information required for engineering design and permitting activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys of aerial and underground telecommunications facilities.
- Inspect and document utility poles, underground pathways, rights-of-way (ROW), and surrounding site conditions.
- Capture detailed field photographs, including pole tags, cable markings, attachment points, handholes, anchors, clearances, MPOE locations, and potential obstructions.
- Measure span lengths, attachment elevations, ground clearances, and collect accurate GPS coordinates.
- Maintain organized field notes and route records in accordance with OSP engineering standards.
- Prepare and update route information using Google Earth and KMZ/KML mapping files when required.
- Identify potential construction challenges, utility conflicts, easement concerns, and permitting requirements.
- Upload, validate, and manage field data using tools such as Katapult Pro, IQGEO, or similar platforms.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate project deliverables.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in OSP fielding, telecom construction, utility mapping, surveying, or related field is preferred.
- Exposure to AT&T projects and processes is highly desirable; knowledge of IFP, ASE, and GPON environments is a plus.
- Familiarity with Google Earth and basic KMZ/KML file creation or editing is preferred.
- Understanding of FTTx networks and GPON architecture is advantageous.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding field activities.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
