Postdoctoral Research Scientist

The Alon lab in the Department of Pharmacology at Yale Medical School and has an open position for an outstanding and passionate post-grad scientist. Our lab focuses on understudied membrane receptors implicated in human disease. We use a combination of structural biology, biochemistry, ligand discovery, and pharmacology to study sigma receptors and other sterol binding proteins as drug targets for conditions such as cancer and neuropathic pain. We are seeking highly motivated candidates with excellent organizational skills that can carry out experiments independently.

Training:

Depending on your scientific interest, you will have the opportunity to tackle several projects by applying a broad range of structural, biochemical, and biophysical techniques to interesting and medically relevant membrane receptor proteins. You will leverage modern protein purification techniques, structural techniques such as cryoEM and X-ray crystallography, computational modeling, and CRISPR/Cas9 technology. You will learn basic lab skills such as tissue culture cell maintenance, drug binding assays, organizing databases, and preparing stock solutions. You will design and execute experiments, analyze results, and generate figures. You will be a co-author on papers related to your research project.

Mentoring:

Lab members will receive mentoring tailored to their career goals. You will work closely with Dr. Alon and other lab members, providing ample learning and growth opportunities for those interested in biomedical research.

Education:

By the beginning of the appointment, the ideal candidate has completed a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in biology, engineering, or another science-related field. The position is ideal for recent graduates interested in strengthening their research experience prior to applying to medical and/or graduate school. 

Previous experience in basic science research and demonstrated record of academic achievement is a strong plus. Experience with basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA cloning, and construct design preferred.
