Full-Time | Minneapolis, MN | Early Childhood Education

Salary Range - $21.00 - $22.00 per hour

At YWCA Minneapolis, our early childhood classrooms are rooted in anti-bias education and care. As a Teacher 1, you’ll help design safe, inclusive, developmentally appropriate environments for young learners while partnering with families and supporting your classroom team.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum using YWCA’s anti-bias and "We Care" approach
  • Supervise children at all times; maintain accurate attendance records
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and culturally responsive environment
  • Assess and document children's developmental progress across domains
  • Model and encourage cultural sensitivity with children and families
  • Ensure compliance with DHS Rule 3, NAEYC, Parent Aware, and CACFP standards
  • Maintain current emergency procedures and child portfolios
  • Co-lead parent-teacher conferences and contribute to behavioral management plans
  • Collaborate with center teams to support classroom and program needs
  • Attend staff training days and fulfill in-service requirements

Classroom & Organizational Responsibilities

  • Submit lesson plans biweekly and ensure materials are prepared
  • Clearly communicate with families using approved channels (e.g., ProCare, YWCA email)
  • Notify leadership of curriculum or equipment needs
  • Provide support across classrooms and serve as a backup as needed
  • Demonstrate punctuality and readiness at shift start

  • Maintains attendance logs and developmental assessments accurately
  • Supports NAEYC portfolio upkeep and compliance standards

Child Development

  • Plans curriculum that nurtures all developmental domains
  • Identifies concerns or delays proactively

Health and Safety

  • CPR and First Aid certified; practices safety protocols regularly
  • Ensures children's physical and emotional well-being

Technology & Training

  • Uses ECE software as needed
  • Maintains all required certifications and in-service hours

Emotional Intelligence

  • Demonstrates empathy, patience, and judgment
  • Welcomes feedback and uses mistakes as learning opportunities

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Works effectively with other ECE staff to meet classroom goals
  • Builds respectful, supportive relationships

Required:

  • 1+ year of experience in Early Childhood Education
  • Meet Minnesota DHS Rule 3 Teacher qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • CPR and First Aid certifications

Preferred:

  • AA or BA in Child Development or Early Childhood Education (variances may apply)

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Regular movement: kneeling, standing, lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Requires physical activity, visual acuity, and engagement in loud environments
  • Must travel occasionally within the metro area
  • Hours may vary based on center and association needs
