The Rock County Historical Society is seeking a hands-on Executive Director to lead a small, community-focused museum and history organization in southwest Minnesota.
RCHS operates multiple historic sites and is home to one of the largest nutcracker collections in the United States, a major visitor attraction that drives strong seasonal engagement and supports public programming.
This is a working leadership role combining daily operations, volunteer coordination, community engagement, basic collections care, and support for exhibits and events.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily museum operations across multiple sites
- Coordinate volunteers and public-facing activities
- Support exhibits, events, and seasonal programming
- Manage basic finances with the Board Treasurer
- Maintain community partnerships, communications, and outreach
- Oversee collections organization and facility coordination
- Support fundraising, grant activities, and membership development
Qualifications
- Prior work with volunteers, youth, or project coordination
- Experience in nonprofits, education, or similar fields preferred
- Background or education in history or archival work preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a small organization
- Interest in museums, history, and/or community engagement
