Marketing & Communications Intern

Twin Cities PBS is seeking a paid Marketing & Communications Intern to join our team for the summer. Working up to 30 hours per week and paid at $20.00 per hour, this role will gain hands-on experience across multiple areas of marketing and communications, including brand development, social media, content creation, communications, audience engagement, and event marketing.
Hybrid Work Environment: Candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the Twin Cities Metro area and report to onsite office a minimum of three days per week.
Compensation: $20 per hour
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Marketing, Content & Communications (50% of time)
- Assist with marketing and communications initiatives that support Twin Cities PBS programming, events, fundraising, and community engagement efforts.
- Create and edit content for social media, blogs, email marketing, website updates, and other communications channels.
- Support content planning and campaign development across multiple platforms.
- Assist with copywriting, proofreading, and content organization to ensure brand consistency.
- Contribute ideas and research to support ongoing brand and messaging initiatives, including branding efforts.
Social Media & Audience Engagement (30% of time)
- Monitor and engage with Twin Cities PBS audiences across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging channels.
- Assist in creating original social media content, including graphics, short-form video, photography, and written posts.
- Research social media trends, audience behaviors, and best practices to inform content strategy.
- Identify potential influencer, creator, and community partnership opportunities aligned with the Twin Cities PBS mission.

Events & Community Engagement (10% of time)
- Support marketing and communications efforts for Twin Cities PBS events and community activations.
- Assist with event promotion, content creation, photography, and on-site support as needed.
- Help gather event content and audience feedback for future marketing use.

Reporting, Research & Team Support (10% of time)
- Track and report on marketing and social media performance metrics.
- Conduct audience, competitive, and industry research to identify trends and opportunities.
- Participate as an active member of the Marketing & Communications team and contribute to collaborative projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or related
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with major social media platforms and digital content trends.
- Interest in storytelling, media, nonprofit organizations, or public media.
- Experience creating content for social media, blogs, newsletters, or other channels is preferred.
- Basic experience with design and content creation tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar platforms
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
- Enthusiasm for the mission and values of Twin Cities PBS.
- Able to work at a computer for extended lengths of time.
