Introduction

 

The Connecticut State Library (CSL), Digitization and Digital Collections Services Unit (DDCS) is seeking two (2) part-time Library Technical Assistants (LTA), to support its ongoing digital preservation and access initiatives. 


As demand for online access to library collections continues to grow, the LTA will support the ongoing expansion of digitization initiatives that contribute to the long-term preservation of cultural resources and enhance public access to information.


 

 

 

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Part-time, 34 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday schedule
  • First shift, 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Located in Hartford, CT
  • A hybrid schedule will be available based on business needs in accordance with the Telework Policy. The Policy can be found here. The exact schedule will depend on operational needs but has flexibility.

 

THE ROLE

This position plays a key role in helping CSL preserve and provide access to the agency’s significant historic and cultural resources. Working under the direction of DDCS staff, the LTA performs a variety of tasks related to digitizing CSL materials and preparing them for long-term management within CSL’s digital collections systems. These tasks include, but are not limited to: 

  • Working on basic and intermediate digitization projects
  • Operating a range of digitization equipment and imaging systems in accordance with established technical guidelines and best practices
  • Editing, processing, and preparing digitized image files
  • Performing both single-item and batch ingests of digitized content into CSL’s digital collections
  • Fulfilling special digitization requests

 

The successful candidate shall possess a high attention to detail, the ability to work independently and manage their time effectively, a willingness to learn new equipment, software, and procedures, and the ability to balance multiple projects at one time.
