HIV Alliance Community Outreach VISTA

Join the Oregon Health Authority sponsored AmeriCorps VISTA team at HIV Alliance in Salem, OR to improve outreach to at-risk and underserved communities.

The AmeriCorps member will 

  1. build relationships with community groups and organizations;
  2. develop outreach strategies, communication materials, campaign tools, and community engagement plans ;
  3. develop tools to evaluate outreach, and analyze outreach/campaign data; and
  4. present findings and recommend opportunities for program improvement to HIV Alliance staff.

This position addresses poverty by improving outreach systems to expand HIV Alliance’s reach and engagement of low-income, underserved community members. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve Oregonians through indirect service and capacity building. While programs developed endure for years, you will have limited direct interaction with community members.

Applicants must have strong communication skills. Experience with community outreach, public speaking, education, social media, or related topics is preferred. Spanish-speaking bilingual applicants are an asset. In-person work is preferred; hybrid will be considered.

This position joins Oregon Health Authority’s statewide AmeriCorps VISTA team at the HIV Alliance in Salem, Oregon. HIV Alliance supports people living with HIV/AIDS by offering comprehensive care and support through our care coordination, education, and support services. Our prevention services, such as free STI testing and our education programs help prevent new HIV infection and other STI cases.

Our work reduces poverty by preventing and reducing out-of-pocket health costs, improving economic stability of individuals living with HIV/AIDS, and empowering individuals to thrive.  This position will address poverty by improving outreach systems to expand HIV Alliance’s reach and engagement of low-income, at-risk, and underserved community members. Improved outreach systems, health education materials, evaluation tools, and program improvement recommendations will help HIV Alliance better reach low-income communities that may face barriers such as limited access to preventive care, unstable housing, transportation challenges, lack of health education, employment instability, or high long-term healthcare costs. Improving awareness and access to preventative health services alleviates poverty by reducing risks for costly and potentially life-long health issues.

In addition to activities at your individual host site, OHA provides members with project orientation, training and professional development, 5 in-person team meetings per year, and support from VISTA team leaders and project director. Position offers are made on a rolling basis; early applications are strongly encouraged.
