About this Job
The Undergraduate Advising Center (UAC) is a centralized advising resource staffed by professional advisors, counselors, and student employees dedicated to supporting undergraduate student success. The UAC provides academic advising, referral services, and guidance to help students navigate their university experience and achieve their educational goals.
The Front Desk Student Assistant serves as a key member of the UAC team and is often the first point of contact for students, families, faculty, staff, and visitors. Student assistants provide exceptional customer service, support daily office operations, and help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for the campus community.
Responsibilities:
Welcome students, visitors, and campus partners to the UAC and provide excellent customer service in person, by phone, email, and virtual platforms.
Serve as a first point of contact by answering questions and directing students to appropriate campus resources and services.
Learn and communicate information about UAC programs, services, policies, and procedures.
Assist students with appointment scheduling and navigating advising services.
Utilize university systems and software to support office operations, including data entry and record management.
Support administrative projects and office functions such as document preparation, copying, and updating resources.
Assist with UAC events, workshops, outreach activities, and special projects.
Collaborate with professional staff and fellow student assistants to ensure efficient front desk operations.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while handling student information and interactions.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Current San Francisco State University undergraduate or graduate student.
Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 units during Fall 2026; graduate students must be enrolled in at least 4 units.
Work-Study and non-Work-Study students are encouraged to apply.
Ability to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week during the academic year.
Ability to work in person at the Undergraduate Advising Center.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
Dependable, responsible, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
Familiarity with San Francisco State University programs, services, and campus resources.
Experience working in a customer service, office, or student-facing environment.
Experience supporting events, workshops, or campus programs.
Familiarity with course registration processes and student support services.
Experience using Canva, social media platforms, or other communication tools.
Previous employment or leadership involvement at San Francisco State University.
Multilingual skills are welcome!

Position anticipated to begin during Fall 2026, with opportunities for an earlier summer start if available. This position is held for current San Francisco State students with termination in correspondence with students' time at SFSU.
