Youth Program Instructor
Youth Program Instructor — Making & Fabrication Part-Time | Urban Workshop | Costa Mesa, CA
About the Role
Urban Workshop runs hands-on making programs for kids, and we're looking for someone who genuinely likes working with young people. You'll lead youth through projects in our shop — think woodworking, basic metalwork, and introductory fabrication. The goal is to get kids excited about building things with their hands.
This is a good fit for an education, engineering, or art student looking for meaningful part-time work that fits around a class schedule.
What You'd Be Doing
- Leading hands-on project sessions with kids in our wood and metal shop areas
- Teaching basic tool use and shop safety in an age-appropriate way
- Keeping the energy positive and the environment structured
- Helping students take an idea from concept to finished project
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with youth — tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, babysitting, volunteering with kids all count
- A genuine interest in making, building, or crafting in any form
- Some familiarity with a woodshop, metal shop, or welding is a real plus — but we can work with someone who has the right attitude and is willing to learn
- Patient, enthusiastic, and comfortable managing a group of kids
The Details
- Part-time with flexible scheduling that works around your classes — afternoons, evenings, and weekends available
- $20/hr
- Staff membership included — use the full shop to work on your own projects on your off hours
- Located at our 30,000 sq ft makerspace in Costa Mesa
