The Position: The Roo Lounge Student Assistant reports to the Assistant Director, Maintenance and Technology within the Jean Hower Taber Student Union. A Student Assistant in the Roo Lounge will provide exceptional customer service assisting students, guests, and special events. They will be responsible for maintaining the upkeep of the game room while gaining knowledge of gaming machinery maintenance and troubleshooting. 

Responsibilities:

Shift

  • Check-in guests, issue equipment rental, and monitor patron activity throughout lounge
  • Refresh, sanitize and disinfect gaming and common areas within the game room daily
  • Enforce game room policies and proper use of equipment with students, guests, and private events
  • Provide exceptional customer service answering guest questions and offer building/campus information and resources
  • Perform opening/closing procedures and complete shift checklist throughout scheduled shift
  • Maintain and reset appearance of game room common areas, front desk, and equipment (bowling balls, shoes, billiards, and gaming consoles)
  • Execute routine daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually scheduled maintenance/cleaning tasks
  • Keep game room clean, neat, and safe; this includes trash, tabletops, common areas
  • Monitor schedule and prepare game room facility for special events, league nights, tournaments, etc.
  • Operate and troubleshoot bowling equipment and software (including lane assignment, POS, music streaming, and basic bowling malfunctions)
  • Document maintenance issues through the JHTSU maintenance form
  • All other duties as assigned

Teamwork & Communication

  • Communicate building concerns through proper channels of communication
  • Know and understand the contents of the emergency response plan
  • Follow appropriate protocol and safety practices when completing projects/tasks
  • Pick up advertised special event shifts when able
  • Assist other areas of the JHTSU
  • Attend and complete required training each semester
  • Participate in staff activities

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must be in good standing at The University of Akron and minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Able and willing to work at least 10 hours per week
  • Must have availability to work afternoons, evenings, and weekend shifts as class schedule allows 
  • Must demonstrates customer service skills
  • Must be comfortable using and learning basic A/V and bowling equipment
  • Polite, friendly, and dedicated to work with others and train as necessary
  • Able to lift 15-20 lbs.

 

Expectations:

  • Adhere to all department policies and procedures outlined in the JHTSU Student Employee Handbook
  • Check email/Teams daily for updates and information involving the JHTSU operations
  • Use proper radio etiquette
  • Maintain proper work uniform (including closed-toed shoes)

 

Conditions:

  • May be exposed to a densely populated space
  • May be exposed to fumes, dust and heights
  • May be required to work various hours, weekends and/or holidays
  • May be required to work unsupervised
