Duties


  • You will serve as spokesperson to the local news media for command and its detachments, establishing effective working relationships with these organizations and maintaining regular contact with them.

  • You will create and pursue opportunities to participate in civic affairs that will help establish and improve the command position as an integral part of the local community.

  • You will direct publication of various brochures, handouts and articles that promote understanding of the command's mission by employees, local citizens and the Navy at large.

  • You will advise command senior military and civilian officials, other key staff members at all command sites, and tenant organizations on actions deemed to be in the best interest of the command PA program.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications



Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Tracking, measuring, and reporting the effectiveness of public affairs campaigns (such as local air show outreach or environmental impact report rollouts);
2) Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with civic leaders, plans community outreach events, and manages the command's noise-abatement inquiry program.
3) Developing engaging written and visual content that highlights base operations, military exercises, and environmental stewardship efforts.
4) Develops crisis communication plans, coordinates joint information center (JIC) operations, and executes rapid-response messaging under high-pressure scenarios;
5) Independently handles complex media inquiries, drafts talking points for the Commanding Officer, and conducts on-camera interviews.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
