Engineering Intern – Lighting Components
Position Summary
The Engineering Intern will support the engineering team by conducting performance, reliability, and compliance testing on lighting components and fixtures. This role provides hands-on experience with laboratory testing, data collection, and product evaluation while assisting engineers in product development and validation activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform functional and performance testing on lighting products and components under the direction of engineering staff.
- Conduct photometric testing and assist with measurement and analysis of light output, distribution, color characteristics, and efficacy.
- Perform thermal and heat-related testing to evaluate product performance and operating temperatures.
- Assist with ingress protection (IP) testing to verify resistance to dust and water exposure.
- Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory test equipment and fixtures.
- Record test data accurately and prepare reports summarizing results.
- Document test procedures, observations, and findings.
- Assist engineers with troubleshooting product issues and investigating test failures.
- Organize and maintain test samples, equipment, and laboratory workspaces.
- Follow all laboratory safety procedures and company policies.
- Support additional engineering projects and product validation activities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, Physics, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical principles.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow test procedures accurately.
- Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other standard office software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or experience related to lighting, electronics, testing, or laboratory environments.
- Familiarity with photometric concepts, thermal testing, or environmental testing.
- Experience using test equipment such as multimeters, power supplies, thermocouples, or data acquisition systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move test samples and equipment up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, and work in a laboratory environment for extended periods.
- Ability to safely work with electrical test equipment under supervision.
