Venture Capital Investment Analyst
The Nucleus Fund is a $40M state-funded venture capital fund aimed at supporting the commercialization of technologies being discovered, advanced, or developed at Utah’s institutions of higher education. As a Venture Capital (VC) Investment Analyst Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting the investment team in evaluating potential investment opportunities and assisting with various tasks in the VC process. Responsibilities may include:
-Conducting market research and industry analysis to identify trends and potential investment sectors.
-Sourcing opportunities that match the fund’s investment thesis.
-Completing the due diligence processes, including financial modeling, competitive analysis, valuation analysis, etc.
-Preparing investment memos and presentations.
-Monitoring portfolio companies’ performance and conducting regular updates.
-Collaborating with team members to evaluate startups and assess their growth potential.
-Participating in meetings with entrepreneurs and potential partners.
-Contributing to the overall investment strategy through insightful research and analysis.
-Supporting other operational activities associated with the firm.
Requirements:
-Ability to attend weekly Monday investment team meeting (remote: 4pm-5pm)
-Ability to attend weekly Wednesday speaker series meeting (remote: 4pm-5pm)
-Ability to spend 15-20 hours/week on the job
-Ability to travel rarely to Salt Lake City or Lehi for periodic in-person meetings, pitch events, etc.
-Attend a Utah Institution of Higher Education
-Personal computer or access to a computer
Preferred Candidates will have…
1. Student status at a Utah institute of higher education (part-time or full-time is accepted)
2. A positive and proactive attitude
3. Extreme curiosity
and either
a. Investment banking, private equity, venture capital, or other investing experience (internship experience counts – especially internships where interns have conducted due diligence for investment memos)
or
b. Have a deep technical understanding (junior, senior, master’s, PhD) in a relevant discipline – advanced manufacturing, aerospace & defense, energy & natural resources, life sciences/biotech, emerging technology (blockchain, ML, AI, AR/VR, etc.)
This is a part-time internship that is unpaid. Potential school credit is available, depending on the university. It is the students responsibility to work with their own schools to receive credit, but we will help support the process.
Excellent interns will be given the opportunity to continue the position through the following semester, and move up into a paid team leader position. One semester as an unpaid intern is required to reach paid status.
