Events & Fundraising Internship (Part-Time)
Location: Legacy Center Office – 4001 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy, Suite 102, Kansas City, MO
Travel: Occasional visits to Club locations across the Kansas City metro area (mileage reimbursement provided)
Reports To: Chief Development Officer
Schedule: School Year
Hours: Up to 20 hours per week (flexible around class schedules)
Stipend: $1,600 per semester plus mileage reimbursement
About Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City
For more than 110 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City has helped young people grow into confident, capable leaders. Our Clubs provide safe places where youth can build friendships, explore new interests, and gain skills that prepare them for the future.
Our mission is to promote the development of self-esteem, values, and skills for boys and girls ages 5–18, with special emphasis on youth facing disadvantaged circumstances. Through high-quality programs and caring mentorship, we help young people realize their full potential.
About the Internship
This internship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, event management, donor relations, and marketing support. Interns will play an active role in supporting fundraising events and auctions through donor communication, auction item management, event logistics, data reporting, and social media engagement.
This opportunity is ideal for individuals interested in gaining practical experience in nonprofit fundraising, event management, communications, and community engagement within a collaborative and mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Event Logistics & Social Media Support
- Assist with event logistics, coordination, and on-site event preparation to support successful execution of organizational events.
- Prepare and organize event collateral materials, signage, and promotional items.
- Support Event Directors with event planning, setup, breakdown, and operational logistics.
- Pack, transport, and organize event supplies and materials for off-site events and activities.
- Provide social media support before, during, and after events to increase engagement and visibility.
- Manage live event social media coverage, including real-time posting, streaming, and audience interaction.
- Promote and engage with donors, sponsors, attendees, and community supporters through social media and digital communication channels.
- Capture and share event highlights, photos, and updates to enhance audience participation and brand awareness.
Auction Support
- Enter and maintain auction item information within auction management systems and databases.
- Write compelling and accurate auction item descriptions to enhance bidder engagement and fundraising results.
- Coordinate and organize auction item pickups, deliveries, and inventory tracking.
- Provide communication support to auction donors, including correspondence, acknowledgments, and follow-up outreach.
- Assist with donor relations by ensuring timely and professional communication regarding auction contributions.
- Support overall auction operations through administrative coordination and event preparation tasks.
Donor Reporting & Analytics Support
- Provide donor reporting support through accurate data entry and database management.
- Maintain and update donor records to ensure accuracy and completeness within the organization's database systems.
- Perform database cleanup and data integrity reviews to improve reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Generate donor, fundraising, and campaign reports to support development and organizational goals.
- Assist with compiling and organizing donor data for stewardship, acknowledgments, and reporting purposes.
- Support the Development team with administrative and reporting tasks related to donor engagement and fundraising activities.
Direct Mail Support
- Assist with direct mail production, including printing, assembling, and preparing mailings for distribution.
- Coordinate stuffing, sorting, and mailing of fundraising appeals, donor communications, and organizational materials.
- Collaborate with the Development team to execute direct mail campaigns and donor outreach initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- Pursuing a degree in Hospitality/Event Management, Communications, Philanthropic Studies, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field (or a strong interest in these areas).
- Creative, organized, and eager to learn.
- Comfortable interacting with high-level community leaders, donors, and volunteers.
- Comfortable interacting with youth in program environments.
- Active on social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Photography and/or videography experience.
- Social media copywriting experience.
- Experience managing social media for campus events, student organizations, clubs, or small businesses.
- Familiarity with Google Analytics or social media insights and reporting tools.
