Elementary School Teacher

NATURE OF POSITION

The Elementary School Teacher shall be responsible to provide each child assigned to the class a program that will enable the child to reach their fullest educational, physical, emotional, and social potential.

The Elementary School Teacher shall be responsible to the assigned building principal

The Elementary School Teacher shall work with the various coordinators and service personnel in furnishing programs and services to each student.

The Elementary School Teacher shall assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.                                                                                      

TYPICAL DUTIES

Provide a basic instructional program consistent with students’ levels of maturity and development and which satisfies district and state expectations.

Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.

Perform various supervisory duties as assigned by the principal.                       

Shoulder a fair share of the responsibilities necessary to the operation and progress of the building or district.

Keep and maintain pupil and attendance records.

Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

Refer to school personnel or community agencies through the principal problems that are beyond the teacher’s scope of training.

Assist in interpreting the school program to the community at large.

Perform other duties and related activities as may be assigned.

Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies. 

 PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION   

  • Hold a degree in education with an elementary endorsement as set by Montana state certification authorities.
  • Be willing to assume responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development.
  • Demonstrate a genuine understanding and empathy for children.
  • Be committed to the total school program.
