Controls Engineer
Job Summary:
The Controls Engineer will support the design, programming, commissioning, and maintenance of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC control systems for commercial, industrial, and mission-critical facilities. The Controls Engineer will have hands-on experience with Delta Controls, Johnson Controls (JCI), Niagara Framework, and other BAS platforms, along with a strong understanding of HVAC systems, control sequences, and system integration.
The Controls Engineer will work closely with project managers, customers, contractors, and internal teams to deliver high-quality control solutions from project conception through commissioning and ongoing support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and develop Building Automation System (BAS) control solutions for HVAC systems.
- Program, configure, and commission control systems utilizing Delta Controls, Johnson Controls (JCI), and Niagara Framework platforms.
- Develop and implement control sequences, graphics, alarms, trends, and system integrations.
- Review project plans, specifications, and sequence-of-operation documents to ensure proper system design and implementation.
- Perform point-to-point verification, startup, commissioning, and functional performance testing of control systems.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, communication networks, and field devices to resolve system issues.
- Integrate HVAC equipment including air handling units, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, pumps, cooling towers, and energy management systems.
- Collaborate with customers, consulting engineers, contractors, and vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide technical support during installation, startup, and warranty periods.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, programming backups, commissioning reports, and as-built documentation.
- Support project scheduling and coordinate field activities to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Participate in customer training and turnover meetings.
- Stay current with industry standards, emerging technologies, and BAS platform enhancements.
Required Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in HVAC controls, building automation, or controls engineering.
- Experience with:
- Delta Controls
- Johnson Controls (JCI)
- Niagara Framework (N4)
- BACnet and Modbus communication protocols
- HVAC control systems and sequences of operation
- Experience with commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of BAS systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and construction documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Niagara N4 Certification
- Delta Controls Certification
- Johnson Controls Metasys experience
- Experience with data centers, healthcare facilities, laboratories, or mission-critical environments
- Knowledge of energy management and system optimization strategies
