Position Summary
The Worship Director is responsible for executing the worship vision established by the Executive Team while developing worship leaders, musicians, and volunteers who help create meaningful environments for people to encounter Jesus.
This leader will oversee worship ministry systems, team development, rehearsal processes, scheduling, and service execution while helping build a culture of worship throughout City Church Chicago.
The ideal candidate is a strong developer of people who can recruit, train, organize, and lead teams while faithfully carrying out the vision and culture of the church.
Primary Areas of Responsibility
Team Development
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop worship leaders, musicians, and vocalists.
- Build leadership pathways within the worship ministry.
- Create a culture of discipleship, ownership, and spiritual growth.
- Develop future worship leaders and team leaders.
Worship Ministry Execution
- Execute worship ministry strategy established by executive leadership.
- Plan and lead worship services in collaboration with pastors and production teams.
- Oversee rehearsals, scheduling, arrangements, communication, technical and team readiness.
- Maintain consistency across all worship environments.
Culture & Discipleship
- Model spiritual maturity and servant leadership.
- Invest relationally in worship team members.
- Foster healthy community and spiritual growth among volunteers.
- Support discipleship initiatives throughout the church.
Worship & Production Collaboration
Collaborate closely with the Production Director to create seamless and engaging worship experiences across all services and special events.
Lead worship planning meetings and communicate song selections, arrangements, transitions, and service flow to production teams.
Prepare and maintain multitrack sessions, click tracks, guide tracks, and playback resources for weekend services.
Build and manage vocal arrangements, harmonies, charts, and rehearsal resources for vocalists and musicians.
Coordinate song keys, arrangements, transitions, and musical moments in partnership with pastors and production leadership.
Ensure Planning Center resources, charts, tracks, and service elements are prepared and distributed in advance.
Partner with Production to execute service flow, cues, transitions, and technical elements with excellence.
Work collaboratively to develop consistent standards for worship rehearsals, soundcheck processes, and service execution.
Assist in evaluating and improving worship and production systems, workflows, and volunteer development pathways.
Participate in the development of future worship and production leaders through training, coaching, and mentorship.
Technical & Musical Leadership
Oversee worship set preparation including charts, stems, multitracks, arrangements, and rehearsal materials.
Maintain a high standard of musical excellence while creating accessible pathways for developing musicians and vocalists.
Ensure worship teams are adequately prepared for rehearsals and weekend services.
Develop systems that support multiple worship teams and sustainable volunteer rotation.
Create and document repeatable worship processes that promote consistency across all services and ministry environments.
