Location: Columbia, SC (In-person)
Duration: Summer 2026 (May–August, flexible)
Compensation: $15/hour

About SC Humanities

SC Humanities connects South Carolinians through stories, history, culture, and ideas. Through grants, public programs, and partnerships, we bring communities together to explore the people, places, and experiences that shape our state. We are seeking an enthusiastic Event Planning Intern to help support and execute programs that engage audiences across South Carolina.

Position Overview

The Event Planning Intern will gain hands-on experience coordinating public events, community programs, workshops, and special gatherings. This role is ideal for a student interested in event management, nonprofit leadership, hospitality, communications, or public engagement.

The intern will work closely with SC Humanities staff to assist with event logistics, vendor coordination, registration management, on-site event support, and post-event evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and coordinating events, meetings, workshops, and public programs
  • Support venue research, scheduling, and logistics
  • Communicate with speakers, partners, vendors, and attendees
  • Manage event registration and guest lists
  • Help prepare event materials, signage, and supplies
  • Provide on-site support during events, including setup and breakdown
  • Track event details and maintain planning documents
  • Assist with post-event surveys and reporting
  • Support other organizational projects as needed

Qualifications

  • Current college student or recent graduate
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Comfortable interacting with diverse audiences and community partners
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events
  • Reliable transportation preferred
