Role Overview
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the strategic procurement of high-quality goods and materials at optimal market prices. This role balances technical inventory management via MRP systems with high-level vendor negotiations and cross-departmental collaboration. The successful candidate will oversee the daily operations of the purchasing department, ensuring supply chain continuity and cost-efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement & Inventory Management
MRP System Ownership: Monitor product demand levels and execute purchase orders accurately within the MRP system.
Supply Chain Optimization: Determine optimal order quantities and delivery schedules to maintain lean yet adequate inventory levels.
Stock Health: Proactively identify and manage slow-moving or obsolete stock to minimize waste and storage costs.
Financial Integrity: Process month-end credit card reconciliations and maintain meticulous vendor files and open PO records.
Vendor Relations & Negotiation
Contract Management: Negotiate new and recurring vendor contracts in alignment with global strategic direction.
Supplier Performance: Schedule and lead regular supplier meetings to improve pricing structures, communication channels, and on-time delivery (OTD) metrics.
Technical Collaboration
Engineering Liaison: Partner with the Engineering department to manage procurement for new product launches, addressing technical challenges such as yield issues and Bill of Materials (BOM) updates.
Data Reporting: Synthesize procurement data to provide actionable insights for department heads, executive management, and global stakeholders.
Leadership & Mentorship
Supervision: Provide direct oversight and daily task management for the Purchasing Assistant.
Interdepartmental Support: Act as a subject matter expert and primary point of contact for inquiries from the Production Supervisor, Warehouse team, and Purchasing Assistant.
