SlapStik Comedy Entertainment is a comedy media company based in Columbus, Ohio. We publish SlapStik Comedy Magazine, produce podcasts, create digital content, and showcase comedians through multiple media platforms. Our mission is to highlight the business, culture, and creativity of comedy while providing opportunities for emerging talent.

Position Overview

We are seeking detail oriented Magazine Review Interns to join our Editorial Review Team. This team serves as the final quality review before articles are published in SlapStik Comedy Magazine.

As a Magazine Review Intern, you will review completed articles after they have been written and edited. Your role is to help ensure each article is engaging, polished, accurate, easy to read, and aligned with the voice of SlapStik Comedy Magazine.

This position is ideal for students majoring in English, Journalism, Communications, Creative Writing, Publishing, or related fields who enjoy editing, storytelling, and helping content connect with readers.

Responsibilities

  • Review magazine articles prior to publication
  • Edit grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure
  • Improve article flow, readability, and audience engagement
  • Identify repetitive wording and unnecessary content
  • Suggest improvements that strengthen the article's voice and impact
  • Fact check information when necessary
  • Use Track Changes and comments to provide feedback
  • Collaborate with writers, editors, and the Magazine Review Team
  • Attend weekly meetings and participate in editorial discussions
  • Help ensure articles appeal to an adult audience ages 21 and over

Qualifications

  • Strong written communication and editing skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback
  • Comfortable working independently and meeting deadlines
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Track Changes preferred
  • Interest in comedy, entertainment media, journalism, publishing, or magazine production is a plus

Internship Details

  • Unpaid internship
  • 10 hours per week
  • 16 week commitment
  • College credit available where applicable
  • Weekly SlapStik Comedy team meeting required on Sundays
  • Additional Magazine Review Team meetings required
