Fall 2026 Lab Assistant - Work Study
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: The Collaborative Learning Center, located in Ingram Hall, provides essential services and support to Texas State University STEM students. We provide computer lab resources and tutoring for the TXST STEM community.
JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Lab Assistant provides general administrative support to the department. Key responsibilities include:
- Greet visitors and provide information in a friendly and professional manner
- Check in students for STEM tutoring or computer lab use
- Answer the phone and respond to questions and inquiries in a friendly and professional manner
- Assist with creating the tutoring schedule and record tutor attendance
- Enforce computer lab policies and procedures
- General cleaning - pick up litter, vacuum lobby area, and wipe down surfaces in the tutoring center and computer lab
- Maintain and inventory office supplies
- Work with the director on specific projects including orientation and social events
PAYRATE DETERMINATION: The starting pay rate is $14 per hour, established in alignment with the Texas State University Pay Plan. Payrate may increase by. 25 after two long semesters (fall & spring) of employment with a positive evaluation from their supervisor using the Student Employee Career Readiness Evaluation form.

Communication: enhance communication skills through regular interaction with staff, faculty, and visitors in a professional setting.
Critical Thinking: strengthen ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Professionalism: Develop strong organizational skills by managing various office tasks efficiently and maintaining a dependable, professional presence.
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Director of The Collaborative Learning Center
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Availability: Must be available to schedule work during the office’s hours of operation. The Center is open between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 9am - 5pm on Friday.
Location: This position will be working in Ingram Hall, Room #3202
Skills Required: Lab Assistants need good communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to interact with students, faculty and staff. Must have a professional demeanor, be mature, responsible and reliable. This position requires you to be work study eligible.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to assist with light lifting related to deliveries and event setup.
Successful student workers selected for the Fall 2026 position will also able to continue employment for Spring 2027.
EMPLOYEE EVALUATION PROCESS: Student employees will receive feedback mid-semester and at the end of each term through a one-on-one evaluation with their supervisor, focused on strengths, growth areas, and career competency development.
