Job Specifications:
The City of Tallahassee is seeking an experienced Human Resources and Workforce Development (HRWD) Generalist to serve as a key resource and point of contact to departments citywide. This is a high-impact role for a seasoned professional who can operate independently, manage competing priorities across multiple departments, and deliver expert guidance across a broad range of workforce matters. Partnering with departments throughout the organization, you'll support hiring managers throughout the recruitment process, assist with onboarding, represent the City at career fairs, and play a central part in attracting and onboarding top-tier talent.
What You'll Do:
- Support assigned departments. Own the relationship as the go-to liaison for your departments, anticipating needs and driving HR and workforce matters forward in coordination with each department's primary contact.
- Drive full-cycle hiring. Lead departments through job postings and onboarding with efficiency, and design and deliver training that sharpens the hiring process.
- Advise on City policies. Provide confident guidance on the interpretation and application of City policies and HR processes, referring complex matters to the appropriate team as needed.
- Collaborate across teams. Partner as a true team player with internal customers and colleagues to build and implement solutions together.
- Communicate and document with precision. Prepare clear reports, keep records current, and deliver timely, professional responses to every inquiry.
- Work independently and think ahead. Prioritize across multiple departments with professionalism and initiative, anticipating challenges and proposing forward-thinking solutions before issues arise.
Job Description: HRWD Generalist
Minimum Training & Experience
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in human resources, public administration, business administration, or a related field; and at least three years of experience in human resources, public administration, business administration, or a related field (A master’s degree may substitute for one year of the required experience);
OR
Possession of a high school diploma OR GED; and at least seven years of experience in human resources, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
Driver's License Requirements
Must possess a valid Class-E State driver's license at the time of appointment.
Additional Information
Emergency Response Requirement:
In the event of a declared emergency, employees in this role serve as supplemental staff. This role will be required to report and carry out duties as directed for the duration of an emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
Preferred:
•Knowledge of human resources practices, employment laws, and industry-wide regulations relevant to assigned areas; ability to manage sensitive matters with professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present information clearly, both orally and in writing, and build effective working relationships across departments.
•Proficiency in PeopleSoft and other HRIS/talent management systems; ability to navigate databases, prioritize tasks, and use technology to support efficient and accurate HR service delivery.
