Vocational Counselor, Vocational Services

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Placement + Rehab Counselor - Vocational Services.

In this role, the successful candidate Provides vocational rehabilitation and related support services including counseling, assessment,
training and job placement to individuals with physical, neurological and psychiatric disabilities, under supervision.


Job Responsibilities:


Performs other duties as assigned.
• Assesses client status and formulates appropriate vocational goal and plan. Interprets medical, social and
psychological information and evaluates patients vocational history, current status, and vocational options. Utilizes
effective assessment techniques when indicated. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting, interpreting, and
reporting data.
• Provides goal-directed, focused counseling. Establishes a rapport with the patient and explains the role of the
rehabilitation counselor and vocational services. Develops a therapeutic and supportive relationship with the
patient. Demonstrates sensitivity to changes in patient status and modifies treatment plan accordingly. Takes
initiative in identifying problems and developing treatment strategies.
• Implements andcoordinates clientstraining program.Orients work sitesupervisors to thegoals of the workreadiness
trainingprogram and theresponsibilities ofhosting a programtrainee or intern.Develops andmaintains contactswith
Medical Centerdepartments andexternal organizationsfor placement ofprogram participantsat appropriate
trainingsites. Develops newtraining/internshipsites to meet patientneeds. Provides onsiteconsultation,supervision,
and jobcoaching as needed.Uses professionaljudgment andcreativity in presentinginnovative solutionsand
treatmentstrategies to resolveproblems. Initiatesappropriate referralsfor support servicesand maintains
timelycontact with othertreating cliniciansand/or referringcounselor regardingpatients progress.
• Provides effective job placement and follow-up services. Presents clients to the Business Advisory Committee.
Provides job seeking skills training in group and individual sessions. Prepares effective resumes and cover letters,
teaches interview strategies. Provides client with appropriate job postings and referrals and supports clients job
search. Provides post-placement follow-up with client and employer.
• Develops and maintains an employer network. Initiates employer contacts and markets program and candidates.
Develops and follows-up on job leads. Attends Placement Consortium meetings. Performs job market research
and surveys new employers in growth industries. Recruits members for the Business Advisory Committee.
• Documents all servicesand completes allprogram reports usingclear, concisenarrative followingprescribed
protocoland within establishedtimeframes. Insurescase notes reflectpatient status andprogress toward goals.
Enters all reports andprogress notes in Epic.
• Completes monthlystatistics according todepartmental time andprocedural guidelines.Documents externaltravel
notification onappropriate form in atimely manner.Documents safetyoccurrences on PSN.
• Demonstrates continued proficiency in skills required to treat assigned patient population


Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Masters degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or related field. Word processing, spreadsheet,
presentation software and Internet computer skills. Excellent communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
Rehabilitation Counseling Certification. Experience providing direct job placement services to individuals with disabilities.


Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $53,294.21 - $69,960.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
