Technical Sales Representative

Technical Sales Representative / Sales Engineer

            The primary purpose of the Technical Sales Representative is to maintain and develop new customers for the sale of Neff products and services within the assigned territory.  The incumbent in this position will maintain collaborative relationships with all members of Neff and customers to ensure that the highest degree of service is maintained at all times. 

Organizational Relationship and Scope:

  1. Directly reports to Sales Team Leader. 
  2. This position is non-supervisory.
  3. Work and communicate professionally with all staff, customers, and vendors.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Actively calls on existing customers in assigned territory either in person, via e-mail, or via phone. 
  • Actively seeks out and calls on potential customers by gaining the following information: type of business, size, level of automation, equipment, etc.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of customer’s business goals and objectives, operating systems and manufacturing processes.
  • Determines business potential for Neff Group products or services.
  • Develops accounts for significant business potential customers. 
  • Team Leader or Sales Manager will assist sales staff to determine what is considered significant business potential.
  • Identifies decision-makers for each customer/account.      Builds relationships with decision-makers: makes initial contact and introduces Neff Group’s product lines, mission, and develops rapport to identify customer needs.
  • Identifies, quantifies and communicates potential cost reductions to decision-makers.
  • Identified opportunities to solve existing customer problems and/or enhance customer’s operating systems and processes utilizing Neff Group products and services.
  • Is familiar with and makes use of all Neff Group resources to creatively solve problems or enhance effectiveness of customer’s technology.
  • Develops and maintains a Customer Contact and Activity Database for assigned accounts.  Monitors Sales Activity Reports, projecting annual sales goals, preparing territorial sales forecasts and verifying that sales activity supports the forecast and projected sales.
  • Reviews customer activities at least quarterly with Team Leader or Product Sales Manager.  Strategizes ways to maximize sales volumes or grow territory.
  • Works cooperatively with Inside Sales staff.
  • Participates in training and development opportunities as assigned.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a passenger vehicle without restrictions to meet position requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be engaged off-site making contact with customer’s and working within the assigned sales territory. The employee will also be in an office setting and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

This position requires frequent travel to customer locations, the incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in climate controlled settings, but may be exposed to wet and/or humid hot and/or cold conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, ear protection is provided when needed.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree in engineering, industrial technology, with robotics and/or sales engineering required.  
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a relevant associate degree in a related technical field with strong, demonstrated mechanical/technical aptitude and 3-5 years of technical sales experience.  

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interprets technical procedures, and product information in English. 
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS   

  • Ability to mathematical equations to determine quantity, price, discounts, etc. 

REASONING ABILITY 

  • Analytical ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 
  • Mechanical aptitude and technical ability to engineer solutions and assist with the design of systems to meet customer needs. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES   

  • Computer literacy is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to initiate, maintain, and develop relationships.
  • Persuasive/closing ability.
  • Strong customer focus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS   

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; talk or hear.      The employee is required to use hands to touch, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch.      The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
