Mental Health Outreach AmeriCorps Member

The National Mental Health Corps (NMHC) is seeking motivated, service-driven individuals to serve as full-time AmeriCorps Members supporting mental health initiatives throughout South Carolina. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience while helping expand access to mental health resources, strengthen community partnerships, and improve outcomes for individuals and families.

As an AmeriCorps Member, you'll work alongside community organizations, healthcare providers, schools, and local leaders to support mental health education, prevention efforts, outreach initiatives, and community-based programs that make a measurable difference.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Full-time AmeriCorps service position (1,700 hours over approximately 10 months)
  • $21,000 living stipend paid biweekly
  • $7,395 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of service

About National Mental Health Corps

National Mental Health Corps is dedicated to addressing the mental health workforce crisis by expanding access to mental health education, resources, and community-based support services. Through partnerships with organizations across the country, NMHC helps strengthen local communities while developing the next generation of mental health and public health professionals.

Position Overview

AmeriCorps Members serve at local host sites to strengthen community mental health capacity through outreach, education, partnership development, prevention programming, and organizational support. Members help implement initiatives that promote mental wellness, reduce stigma, increase awareness, and connect individuals with resources and support services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in NMHC and host site trainings focused on mental health, community engagement, and professional development
  • Support mental health education initiatives and awareness campaigns
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and implementing programs, events, workshops, and community outreach activities
  • Build relationships with community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, and local stakeholders
  • Represent the host site at community events, resource fairs, and public engagement opportunities
  • Assist with social media, marketing, newsletters, and outreach materials
  • Support partnership development and collaborative community initiatives
  • Help connect community members with available resources and services
  • Collect, track, and report program data and outcomes
  • Assist with evaluation efforts and continuous program improvement
  • Support special projects that strengthen the host site's capacity to serve the community

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Personal or professional experience related to mental health, community engagement, education, healthcare, or nonprofit work is welcomed but not required.
