Competitive Intelligence Analyst II
JOB SUMMARY
Kutak Rock LLP seeks an experienced Competitive Intelligence Analyst II to join its national Knowledge Services team. Under the guidance of the Director, Knowledge Services and the Competitive Intelligence & Knowledge Services Manager, this role will conduct targeted research and analysis on companies, industries, practice areas, geographic markets, and competitors, using a variety of online research tools to identify emerging issues and trends, and prepare insightful and actionable intelligence. Additionally, this position will take an active role in creating and maintaining content on the firm’s SharePoint Online intranet. This role is ideal for the individual who enjoys digging into data while working in a collaborative and collegial environment.
This Full time, hybrid position is available to work out of the following firm office locations: Kansas City, MO or Omaha, NE
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and conduct company, industry, and other research to support firm wide strategic initiatives
- Gather, synthesize, and summarize relevant, well-targeted research about current and prospective clients, industries, and competitor law firms for attorneys and administrative groups to facilitate decision making and business planning
- Create alerts to track news regarding current or prospective clients, practice areas, legal and other industries, and inform appropriate firm contacts
- Research and provide SIC and NAICS code information to Accounting to aid in business development and competitive intelligence research
- Manage and trouble shoot issues with the firm’s intranet Kutak Rock Knowledge
- Create firm-wide client, industry, and competitor law firm profiles for easy access for firm attorneys on Kutak Rock Knowledge (intranet)
- Update office, practice area, and administrative department intranet pages
- Develop resource pages for practice areas specific resources
- Train staff on how to update and/or edit their office or department’s content
- Perform docket, case, and article document retrieval requests
- Monitor legislation, industry trends, court decisions affecting clients and client-related industries
- Participate in the ongoing evaluation of new research resources and processes
- Record research projects and related time using InTapp and SydneyEnterprise in a manner that meets deadlines and provides meaningful ROI metrics
- Assist with special projects as assigned by the Director, Knowledge Services, or the Competitive Intelligence & Knowledge Services Manager
QUALIFICATIONS: Skills and Abilities
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize and complete projects within provided time limit
- Knowledge and ability to leverage key research and analytics databases including Westlaw Precision/Edge, Westlaw Litigation Analytics, D & B Hoovers, Mergent, Law.com Compass and PACER to conduct comprehensive analytics and competitive intelligence research
- Able to maintain a high degree of diligence, accuracy, and consistency
- Ability to define research questions when given only high-level research goals
- Practical knowledge and skill in intranet development and maintenance
- Intermediate level understanding of Excel and data analysis principles
- Strong analytical skills
- Clear, concise, and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of customer service expectations
- Curious, flexible, and eager to learn new skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, often with team members in other offices and/or time zones
- Strong people skills and ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals
- Willingness to assist with various administrative duties and projects, as necessary
- Ability to regularly report to work on days and times scheduled
QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in library & information science, preferred
- Minimum of two years of professional experience in handling competitive intelligence or general business research, law firm experience preferred
- Candidates with experience in creating, maintaining, and publishing content to a SharePoint intranet preferred
Position Information
Status: Exempt
Salary Range: $65,000 – $85,000 Per year, commensurate with education and experience.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid 3:2, with Manager approval
