About the Role
We are looking for a multi-talented Video Producer & Editor to join our team in Madison, Wisconsin.
We operate two vastly different channels -- City Planner Plays (audio-driven, long-form gaming edutainment content with dry humor) and Zoning Out (host-driven tech and lifestyle content requiring hands-on camera operation) – and are in need of someone that can perform video editing with passion, expertise, and creativity. An ideal candidate has extensive experience video editing or producing, works autonomously to deliver publishable videos on a schedule, and is passionate about city building games or technology. We are willing to consider someone earlier in their career if able to demonstrate the ability to grow in the areas mentioned.
The ideal candidate is someone who treats video production like a craft, not a checklist. You aren’t just focused on cuts and transitions; you find creative ways to add to an edit, reveling in the ability to enhance the story by pointing out the highs and lows of gameplay, highlighting absurdities or mistakes, and adding comedic flair when the opportunity arises. We need someone with a rigorous standard for technical consistency and quality, while remaining willing to take creative risks to evolve and improve the content.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit long-form, short-form, and VOD content for both channels, executing seamless pacing, sound design, color grading, and comedic timing.
- Assist with camera setup, lighting, and audio monitoring during studio shoots for Zoning Out.
- Maintain and improve the organization of local NAS storage, backup procedures, and project sync workflows.
- Brainstorm and pitch video ideas, pacing shifts, and packaging concepts alongside the channel owner.
Requirements
- Ability to use Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Affinity
- Strong understanding of YouTube-specific pacing, audience retention, and modern internet/gaming culture.
- Solid baseline knowledge of camera operations, lighting basics, and audio capture.
- Ability to work on-site at our Madison, WI studio at least 50% of the time.
