Title: Mechanic

Department: Public Works

Status: FLSA Non-Exempt, Union, 40 hours per week

Hours: Monday -  Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m

Salary: FY26, Grade PW6 $29.0306 - $30.7759 per hour for steps 1-3 (salary range exceeds hiring range)

 

General Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide hands-on mechanical repair and maintenance duties for all DPW machinery and equipment in the Town of Norwood; as well as all other related work as required.

 

Essential Job Functions: *

  • Performs troubleshooting, mechanical repair and maintenance duties on all town DPW machines and equipment such as weed whackers, automobiles, dump trucks, and front- end loaders. 
  • Provides light bodywork and welding for repair of vehicles. 
  • Performs maintenance and repair duties such as greasing vehicles; changing oil filters; readjustment of wiring, lights, front/rear brakes; and re/mounting of tires. 
  • Orders all mechanical parts necessary for repairing of equipment. 
  • Performs snow plowing and sanding operations; assists other areas of the DPW as needed. 
  • Performs similar or related work as required

 

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment; 
  • knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, welding. 
  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to follow all applicable safety regulations and procedures. 
  • Skill in all of the above listed tools and equipment.

 

Minimum Requirements: *

  • High school education or equivalent, advanced technical education or equivalent; 
  • Three (3) years of experience relating to the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Trained in electrical and diagnostic equipment. 
  • Possession of a valid CDL license. 
  • Mass Hoisting Engineering license.
