Cybersecurity Systems & Analytics Intern

GLESEC is a cybersecurity managed services company serving clients in healthcare, banking, government, education, and critical infrastructure. We provide cybersecurity monitoring, infrastructure protection, vulnerability management, cloud application protection, threat intelligence, endpoint security, and security operations support.

We are looking for a part-time Cybersecurity Systems & Analytics Intern to support our technical operations team.

This is a hands-on technical role for a student or early-career candidate who wants real experience with servers, cloud infrastructure, Splunk, dashboards, logs, cybersecurity operations, scripting, and system troubleshooting.

Position Summary

The intern will support engineers and cybersecurity operations personnel with technical tasks related to infrastructure, cloud systems, log analysis, dashboards, documentation, monitoring, and security operations.

This role is ideal for someone who is smart, reliable, technical, curious, and willing to learn quickly in a real cybersecurity operations environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with Splunk searches, reports, alerts, and dashboards.
  • Review logs, system events, and security data under supervision.
  • Help maintain and update technical dashboards.
  • Support documentation of systems, procedures, configurations, and recurring tasks.
  • Assist with server, cloud, and application monitoring activities.
  • Help troubleshoot technical issues under guidance from senior staff.
  • Support scripting or automation for repetitive technical tasks.
  • Assist with data collection, evidence preparation, and technical reporting.
  • Help validate telemetry, alerts, and system health indicators.
  • Use AI tools responsibly to support research, documentation, scripting, and troubleshooting.
  • Work with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and development teams as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Current student or recent graduate in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Basic understanding of Linux and/or Windows systems.
  • Basic understanding of networking: TCP/IP, DNS, ports, protocols, VPNs, firewalls.
  • Interest or experience in cybersecurity operations.
  • Ability to read logs and analyze technical information.
  • Basic scripting or programming knowledge in Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good documentation habits.
  • Reliable availability for a fixed weekly schedule.
  • Willingness to learn quickly and accept technical guidance.

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to Splunk, SIEM tools, dashboards, or log analysis.
  • Exposure to AWS or other cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with APIs, JSON, SQL, or data processing.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management, EDR, firewalls, WAF, or monitoring tools.
  • Comfortable using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or similar tools to improve productivity.
  • Good English reading and writing skills.
