Upper Elementary Special Education Teacher

Position:                              Elementary Special Education Teacher

Building:                              Central Montcalm Upper Elementary

Reports to:                         Principal/Special Education Coordinator

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, Highly Qualified in Elementary Education K-5 All Subjects (K-8 All Subjects in Self-Contained Classroom) (ZG); with Special Education Endorsement
  • Possess the appropriate MTTC subject content area examination(s)
  • Successfully pass a criminal history records check
  • Recent, successful experience as an effective classroom teacher
  • Passion for the development of all students
  • Excellent team and interpersonal skills with positive attitude

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ability to model instructional strategies to be used with evidence of success
  • Ability to deliver multi-tiered system of supports effectively
  • Background working with at-risk students with evidence of success 
  • Experience with PBIS and MTSS systems

 

General Description: 

  1. Maintain close communications with regular classroom teachers regarding the progress of and concerns about students
  2. Keep daily lesson plans of intervention activities and comply with all other documentation forms and data required
  3. Demonstrate ability to handle conflict productively
  4. Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain boundaries with students/families
  5. Employ a variety of instructional and behavioral techniques and resources consistent with parameters of the educational environment and the needs and limitations of the students
  6. Evaluate student progress based on work output and observation, determines goals, objectives and directives
  7. Maintain accurate educational records in accordance with law, district policy and administrative requests
  8. Full awareness of classroom environment and student safety at all times
