Library Assistant - Elementary
Glendive Public Schools is seeking a caring, organized, and student-focused Librarian Assistant for Jefferson Elementary School and Lincoln Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. If you enjoy working with students, promoting literacy, and helping create a welcoming learning environment, this is an excellent opportunity to support student success and foster a love of reading.
Applicants must have excellent communication skills, complete tasks efficiently, and possess strong technology skills, including experience with Microsoft products, Google applications, student information systems, websites, computer programs, and social media platforms. Successful candidates will be quick learners, patient, kind, flexible, and committed to supporting students and staff.
The Library Aide will:
- Provide instructional, supervisory, and clerical assistance to the library through completion of routine tasks assigned by the librarian
- Assist students and staff in the use of the library/media center
- Monitor students completing assignments requiring independent practice of skills and concepts
- Assist the librarian and classroom teachers in checking student comprehension of concepts and skills learned
- Supervise students under the direction of the librarian and/or building principal
- Assist the librarian in teaching students and staff how to access and utilize library resources
- Assist in cataloging and organizing library materials
- Support students in developing research skills and the effective use of technology
- Maintain library circulation, shelving, and inventory procedures
- Help create a positive, welcoming, and organized library environment
- Assist with literacy activities, special events, and other library programs
- Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development as required
- Perform other duties as assigned

Desired Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience working with print, visual, and audio materials preferred
- Experience with computers, cataloging systems, and library media preferred
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, and staff
- Ability to handle stressful situations professionally
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student and employment matters
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
- Ability to learn new technologies and procedures quickly

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works indoors in a school setting. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students. The noise level is typically quiet to moderate.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally walk and stand. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to hear conversations in quiet environments and may be required to lift or carry up to 30 pounds.
Mental/Motor Demands:
This position requires frequent flexibility and the ability to shift from one task to another. The employee regularly works within time constraints, maintains attentiveness, and engages in social interactions requiring effective oral and written communication.
